QTSlideShow™

QuickTime 7 seems to have broken this utility.

You need QuickTime Pro and Mac OS X to use this utility.

QTSlideShow is a free AppleScript® utility to create a QuickTime® slideshow from a folder of images. The pictures must be tiff, pict, jpeg, or gif files. The pictures will be shown in alphabetical order. Names might be similar to

  • slide01.jpg
  • slide02.jpg
  • slide03.jpg
  • slide04.jpg,
or, if this is more convenient:
  • 01_slide.jpg
  • 02_anotherslide.jpg
  • 03_yetanother.jpg

You can type in a positive integer (1,2,3, etc.) to indicate how many seconds each slide will be shown. All slides are shown for the same length of time.

This utility differs from QuickTime's "Open Image Sequence" command in that QTSlideshow allows for pictures that are different sizes. The QuickTime movie will be sized to the largest width and the largest height of the pictures in the selected folder.

If the pictures are not all the same size, some background will show. You can pick from a list of background colors.

Other options include:

  • Looping (the QuickTime movie plays over and over)
  • Auto Play (the QuickTime movie starts playing as soon as it is opened, without user intervention)
  • Present Movie (the QuickTime movie is presented with the rest of the screen black)

When the script is finished, it leaves you with an open, unsaved QuickTime video slideshow. If the slideshow suits you, you should probably save the movie (self-contained).

Since this utility uses Applescript, you will see the program opening and closing QuickTime files. You should let the utility open and close those files without interruption.

This utility does not compress any of the pictures, which means that the completed file can get quite large. You may want to compress the pictures before using this utility.

As always, be sure you have a backup before proceeding.
